I just read an article in the Washington Business Journal that stated sales of distressed homes -- which include foreclosures and short sales -- made up 45% of the total home sales nationally in the fourth quarter of 2008, according the National Association of Realtors, and sales of distressed homes continued to represent 45% of home sales in February of this year.

Rick,
Thanks for the great information. We went for a walk on the beach over in your area and had a few drinks at the windjammer on Sunday. Lot's of fun! Please keep the ideas coming!

Daniel, glad to hear you love our city, and glad to hear your my neighbor. I am on the IOP and we love eating at the Boathouse which is right in between the two of us. Also, the beach here is a little more populated, but you can walk right up the beach and eat at other restaurants or get a drink if that's what you like (WindJammer, etc.). Let us know if we can help, and WELCOME TO CHARLESTON!!

Charleston SC, is THE best place in the world to live! Just went out in the boat for the first time and saw dolphins everywhere around Fort Sumpter (which was unbelievable BTW). We purchased a beach home on sullivans Island through the NewCon Group (got it for a steel becuase it was a vacation house a family in Detroit was selling...I assume an executive in the auto industry) a few months ago. We chose to move to Charleston, SC because of all the history and we're taking the tours through downtown Charleston. The NewCon Group gave us all the info to get started and told us where to definitely go siteseeing for our first few trips (The old Slave Market, The battery, all the beaches, Kiawaah private resort and Seabrook private resort (but they also told us how to get in;-), kiawaah golf and other courses, and the funnest yet was the tour boat which leaves from the building next to the Charleston aquarium. If anyone is planning on moving here just post a note and I'll give you the rundown. The NewCon Group also got us in touch with the visitors center here and gave us a bunch of other information. HIGHLY SATISFIED WITH EVERYTHING, and it's been probably the best decision my wife and I have made as far as who to work with for real estate. Just wanted to say hello to all the local Charlestonians and let you all know how much we're enjoying your beautiful city.
******WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT SOME OF THE LOCAL FAVORITES LIKE BARS AND RESTAURANTS******* (The NewCon Group gave us a few to start with and we LOVED them (Poes on Sullivans island, and the irish bar across the street, but we didn't ask them about downtown charleston...we'll email them to find out but would love some local input. Thanks!!)

Just saw your ad for this site on craig's list. Love the search by map feature that uses Google maps. Way cool. As soon as I convince my wife I'll be looking to sell my house and move closer to work.

Hello Kellie,
There are a lot of new constructions homes spread out over the West Ashley Area. Many of them are along the HWY 17 area, but there are also large developments accessible from Glen McConnel, Bees Ferry, etc. being built by national builders, and there are many more smaller home builders building new construction in just about any area of West Ashley you can think of. Some of these builders choose not to list their homes on the MLS, so in those cases it's always best to give us a ring or send us an email and we can give you a good idea of EVERY new construction home on the market in the area of interest given our connections with builders. Sometimes we'll even have information on new homes that aren't yet built and can get pre construction discounts on those homes from the builder. LOTS of great possibilities with that, so check out the site and give us a call or email when you're ready. ENJOY!-)
BTW, JOHNNY, YOU SURE ARE MAKING IT HARD TO CONCENTRATE ON WORK WITH ALL OF THIS BOAT TALK ON A BEAUTIFUL DAY LIKE TODAY!-) HAVE FUN!!

I'm assuming you're talkign about the one on the water for $380. Cool place as you can tell from the pictures (just looked at it on search above)

Johnny, Boat sounds WONDERFUL, and Bradley, a backscratch out in the boat would be a dream!!!! Anyway, you aren't the only ones working, trust me..... I am looking at a home near Battery Haig (pool, 2 floors over garage, (actually not in battery haig but at entrance) that I found on this site search. Anyone familiar with the area?

sure-lower prices have been great for people who are buying a house. what about the people that bought a house when prices were off the charts and now need to sell?

Jaime says...

I think it was about time for housing prices to come down! It was getting out of control.
